Just want to say hey to all my new fellow classmates who may be reading this!
Have completed my CRB, my licence came in the post yesterday with a shiny new C1 on it (woop) and its all starting to feel a bit real :O
Went shopping yesterday with my dear friend Sophie and bought some trousers - which, and I did this totally subconsciously, are paramedic green. That is actually how Id describe them. Haha.
My little sister has just broken the news to me that Daddy is letting us do some painting!! Hell yeah! Not sure how Im gonna leave her. Or the littlest one. The big one is not such a problem. Havent seen her in weeks anyway :P
Ooh and Ive recruited another friend to be a paramedic! And so I shall be her mentor until she is walking through the doors of Herts uni next year just like Ill be in exactly one month. Such fun.

So much has happened since I last posted!!! I 1) passed my driving test!!! 2) got accepted to Hertfordshire 3) got my A - Levels = BBC !! Also had some rather bad news all in one week as well but we are all starting to recover. Ive been networking on the facebook meeting future classmates and housemates which is good fun although I want to keep most of it a surprise :P Cant believe it is all actually happening, soon Ill be taking the compulsory trip to Ikea for all my things!

Well, exams are ... OVER!!! Such a relief, have been watching the tennis all day every day! They are all such admirable athletes, so great to watch. Well new series 'Sirens' has started and it is amazing. It is probably not quite an accurate representation of a paramedic's life, but it is hilarious. As for every other programme based on the ambulance service which are all smothering the prime TV slots, they are still just as entertaining and Im starting to get down with the lingo. I am also still super excited. This is possibly my best ambition (well ,definitely actually) and I cant believe that one day it will be a reality. Finally got my adult St John uniform yesterday and was taught the new recovery position (dont worry, it hasnt changed too much for all of those thinking they may be doing it wrong).
And Ive booked my driving test. Eeeek

Hi!
Boy did I miss out on an amazing St John duty at the weekend!! There were 17 PRFs - only for MAJOR incidents. There were so many minor incidents (plasters/drunk people/even bandaging) that they couldn't even bother with the PRFs. There were broken legs (bone through skin!), drug overdoses etc... And I didn't even go. It was a festival, overnight, and I wasn't sure I could handle that : / But damn it I wish I'd gone :( My first aid trainer, Ross, got an overall 4 hours sleep in 62 hours of duty. Unbelievable and considering what he had to handle - one security guard was bitten, by a HUMAN - he did an amazing job and he won't even get that much thanks. So next time you get treated by a member of St John ambulance, do not throw it back in their face, a 'thanks' is much appreciated. I have another duty tonight, a cycle race at the Lotus track, which is new I hear. Brand new pit lane and everything, although because it's a new track, it will be slippery and these cyclists reach 30mph. Should be fun :)

Howdy!
So, my physio says I am progressing brilliantly - need to try swimming (but without the swimming) etc and he's not keen on me driving for a couple more weeks. Will need to do an intensive then to get it done by the deadline or no university for moi :( But I have hope! I now also have a 95 degree bend in my leg - hurrah!
Have mostly been stalking Ewan McGregor this week - he is filming 'Jack the Giant Killer' at my local cathedral and although I haven't spotted him, I did glimpse Nick Hoult of Skins fame which was pretty cool. And yes, he is very tall, and yes, very handsome.
Starting to think a little more about being a paramedic - the little details - can I wear makeup, do I have to have my hair up every day? Simple, unnecessary things, but things all the same. Booked my accommodation too, so getting very excited now!!

Another day another post...
Just watching the Eurovision Song Contest at the moment!! It's good fun I have to say. And I am practically walking like a normal person now :) I have a slight limp but hopefully that will even out. My physiotherapist is the lovely Damien, who is keen to get me back up to my original fitness asap. He was quite brutal in getting me to bend my knee, but he just tossed the splint away, which I was very grateful for! He then measured how far I could get it to bend (a dissapointing 45 degrees) and made me promise to get to 90 by next week. He was a little concerned about the fact that the injury was caused by something as simple as, ahem, walking, and he took a good long look at my x - rays. He told me that I have 'alta kneecaps' meaning very high. And I mean VERY high. Damien was astonished by them. He had a good poke around at both kneecaps, shoving the bad one around as much as he could (making me tear up - damn this psychological pain) but promised me that whilst doing so, there is no way he could force it out. Which was mildly comforting. So now I have a hundred million exercises to do - actually 5, repeated 10 times, 2 - 3 times a day. Most of them require a wall and allowing gravity to put me back into shape. And static cycling. And swimming, without the real swimming. But absolutely no breaststroke - he was very persistent about that.
Anyway, I'm chuffed to be progressing though I need to ask him the important questions next week - when can I drive or, more importantly, horse ride.

I cannot believe how many TV programmes there are about A&E!! It is such a trendy job at the moment I feel so blessed to have a place. There is a little matter of the driving license though, but I will not let that stand in my way of my DREAM job :)
Watched this new Angela Griffin programme about working with paramedics and she was sooo frightened by everything. In fairness, her first call was to a 9 week old baby who wasn't breathing, followed by her night shift ending with a call to a hanging (sadly, they didn't reach him in time). It looks like such a stressful job, as my parents keep telling me, but yes, I am sure I can handle it, more sure than anything. I found it quite sad that Angela couldn't get a grip on things and realise that they were going to save that person or this person, not carry a corpse back to hospital. I guess that's the difference. More Bizarre ER tonight too - always a good one for laughs :P They used to film it at my local hospital, and when I busted my knee (which is still in a splint boo) the female paramedic who picked me up had had a patient who had been on the show! The guy who got bitten by an adder, the fool.
Note to self, must check out new channel 4 show about A&E - it's everywhere!!

Um yeah. So I dislocated my knee last week. OUCH. My sister did it this time last year, almost to the day. Turns we out we are double jointed (which I always knew and used to think was really cool, but apparently not so much) and our knee caps are 'slightly higher up on average'. woooh. Now Im in a leg splint but am fully weight bearing. Im still terrified that it might #pop out again (my God did it pop!) but that will hopefully end when physio starts.
Anyway, when I did it, walking by the way, my family were great and kept me from screaming too much. All I could think was 'there is no way Ive done this' and it wasnt that painful, just sort of, wrong. The paramedics turned up swiftly, to the tune of my little sis, 4 yr old Lily-M, yelling "THE PARAMEDICS ARE HERE, ITS A BOY AND A GIRL ONE!!!" referring to the gender of the two heroes in green. Once I was comfortably in the ambulance whizzing to the hospital, I managed a chat with the girl, Kat, and it turns out that she did the paramedic course at Herts!! Its a sign!! She told me that the job is totally worth it, but tough. I expect it to be. Although I dont think I have any idea how tough.
So my kneecap is back in its regular place and Im just spending my time hobbling around (try walking with one leg straight for just 10 minutes) and revising.

Ive decided to start a blog. Im currently 18, living at home and waiting for life to begin. A little bit about me... I live for my family, I have fabulous friends, I get great pleasures from simple things (my health, a smile from a stranger and yes, even a bird serenading the sky) and I have brown hair. I also believe that I was born to heal people (not in a Jesus kinda way but all will become clear). Now, like many people, I have a lot of beliefs, for example, there are the basics; freedom, beauty, truth and of course, love <3 I believe in fate too, but thats mostly an excuse for when things dont go according to my plan!
But above all, I am certain that I was put on this earth to save lives. Whilst my friends were trotting off to ballet class, I couldnt wait to get to my St John Ambulance meetings. All through playgroup I chased people carrying a doctors kit. SJA is the basis of me starting this blog. Without them I would not be who or where I am today - as an ambitious girl who has been accepted to study PARAMEDIC PRACTICE at both Hertfordshire and Plymouth University!!! (Them and Vicki, who accidentally/accidently(?) showed me that the course existed God bless her!).
So now you know why I want to share every step of my journey with y'all, both as memoirs for myself and guidance and inspiration for anyone else considering the profession.
